Curated by renowned Byron designer, Shantala Mack, the interior was inspired by hand-built beach shelters.

Nestled just steps from the shoreline and gazing out to Byron’s iconic Main Beach, The Shack is Beach Hotel Byron Bay’s ultimate open-air hideaway—where good food, great drinks, and golden hour views converge.

Thoughtfully positioned across from the sand and surf, The Shack pairs coastal cool with a touch of contemporary charm. Its design, brought to life by Byron-based designer Shantala Mack, draws inspiration from hand-built beach shelters. Think weathered timbers, breezy transitions between inside and out, and a mellow energy that captures the essence of Byron Bay living.

The venue’s heartbeat is its menu: a collection of flavour-forward dishes made for grazing, sharing and lingering. Designed to complement an extensive drinks list—including classics like Spicy Margaritas, Piña Coladas, and the colourful Strawberry Daiquiri—the food offering draws influence from coastal holiday hotspots across the globe. There’s a sense of both fun and finesse across the plate, whether you’re diving into a light snack or sitting down to something more substantial.

Highlights include the lobster tacos with mango hot sauce, salmon crudo with stone fruit, and the octopus skewers glazed in gochujang and sesame—each dish layered with unexpected hits of salt, spice, and citrus. The Shack also offers a considered range of non-alcoholic drinks, perfect for daytime sipping or winding down after a swim.

‘Our menu at The Shack captures everything we love about coastal dining–bold flavours, fresh ingredients, and a sense of togetherness. We’ve created dishes that not only showcase great produce but also encourage guests to connect, share, and enjoy themselves… this is what ‘The Beachy’ is all about!’ says Ben Turner, General Manager of Food at Beach Hotel.

In true Byron spirit, the vibe is incredibly relaxed. Expect laid-back beats drifting across the terrace, barefoot locals mingling with visitors, and the kind of long-table energy that turns a quick lunch into a sunset session.

Whether you’re settling in for a casual round of drinks or looking for a post-swim feast, The Shack brings a fresh, social spirit to one of our most iconic coastlines.
