Koala’s Paddo Turns The Sofa Into The Place To Be
From single to king, the Paddo Sofa Bed comes in four sizes, each opening out into a daybed or a generous mega chaise.
The Paddo Sofa Bed was designed for life and its accidental unavoidable messes – featuring splash-resistant fabrics and covers that come off in seconds.
Sofa, daybed, mega chaise or bed, the Paddo Sofa Bed moves effortlessly from one to the next.
“A sofa bed shouldn’t feel like a compromise you keep in the spare room. It should earn its place in the room you actually live in.”
When a long night turns into a stay, the Paddo Sofa Bed pulls out into a bed.
Sit up, sprawl out or stretch across the Paddo Sofa Bed all evening.
Every group of friends has a favourite place to land: the home with the best sofa, where no one is in a hurry to leave. It’s that kind of home that shaped Koala’s new Paddo Sofa Bed.
Beneath its timeless shape sits the same comfort technology found in Koala’s mattresses. As a sofa, the Paddo is generous and supportive, with a seat that tilts gently back and pocket springs beneath. It unfolds into a daybed for long, lazy afternoons and a mega chaise for movie nights, then pulls out into a proper bed, raised to bed height with no bars underneath.
The name is a nod to Paddington, the inner-Sydney suburb known for its Victorian terraces and leafy streets. ‘Paddington is the kind of place people gravitate to,’ says Koala Chief Design Officer James Whitta. ‘We wanted to build the piece that makes your home that place.’
For Alexandra Owen, Koala’s Global Director of Product Design, the aim was a sofa bed worth showing off. ‘A sofa bed shouldn’t feel like a compromise you keep in the spare room,’ she says. ‘It should earn its place in the room you actually live in.’
Koala designed three fabrics for the Paddo: a machine-washable velvet, a thick, looped bouclé and a relaxed linen-look weave. They come in six colours, including Cliff Dive, a sandy grey bouclé, and Bronzed Aussie and Fern Gully, a warm caramel and a deep eucalypt green in the linen-look.
All three are treated to resist water-based stains, so spills can be wiped away before they soak in. The covers come off for a cold machine wash and can be replaced, whether to repair wear or to change colour as a room evolves.
The Paddo assembles by hand without tools and comes in single, double, queen and king sizes, with a matching ottoman that works as footrest, side table and storage for spare linen.
‘A good sofa holds a room together,’ says Alexandra. ‘A great one holds people in it a little longer.’
